chocolate tiger: listen
the opportunist
(Nicholas Naylor-Leyland)
two mated birds - i watched you from my tree limb
you laid your eggs, then built an earthen mound
placed them all inside, covered with compost
you left for food and i scurried to the ground
an opportunist who gladly takes her chances
i am the beast who burrowed through the dung
you'd cheer my pluck in different circumstances
i am the lizard who ate your unborn young
i brought you misery
your kids sure tasted good to me
i found the first quite large and crunchy
the second, although smaller, just as good
the third and fourth were, (inside) far more squishy
with five and six, i'd done in your whole brood
hardly had i time to fully taste them
i could not let you think they'd somehow gone
by your return i'd already replaced them
right on the spot i laid seven of my own seven eggs of my own
you carried on with minding their conditions
dare i say " monitored " them with loving eyes
never was aroused the least suspicion
i can't imagine the hell of your surprise
i am the lizard who ate your young
i don't believe i've had more fun
i found the 1rst... the 2nd,although smaller... the 3rd&4th...with 5 and 6...
aghast, bewildered, shocked and duly horrified
for when the eggs, at last, began to break
out came seven slimy slithering lizards
you must have gasped " oh god, it's a mistake "
i am the lizard whose young you incubated
thanks a bunch, especially for the snack
i myself find mothering overrated
give the kids my best - i won't be coming back
i won't be coming back
i am the lizard who ate your young
i would be lying if i said i'm done ( i'm not done )
